In a bid to create a safe learning environment, Victoria University has offered an opportunity to learners and staff to take their Covid-19 vaccination on campus.
Ag Vice Chancellor Dr. Lawrence Muganga who participated in the activity alongside students, said, the university wants to ensure 100% vaccinations for both students and staff, to ensure a safe learning environment for everyone.
Dr Muganga said VU cares about the health of students and staff, and that is why their health is a priority.
“We hid to the call of the government to encourage our people to vaccinate.”
He said 80% of the students have been vaccinated. And 97% of staff received their jabs.
“Our students and staff have become safer themselves as well as their families and communities and country. We are proud of this initiative.”
Dr Muganga also explained that the viral social media message that threatened to fire any staff or student who refused to vaccinate saying, to mitigate the risks of spreading Covid he will ask staff to work from home.
“We don’t plan to sack anyone who refuses to vaccinate, but those who don’t will work from home”.
The new Covid-19 strain has sent fear across the world, with warning that it is more deadly that their initial one.
The government has expedited its efforts to enroll more people on the vaccination, despite fewer doses in the country.
Mr Museveni said if 4.4 million Ugandans take the covid-19 jab, he will open the country fully.
However, less than a million have so far vaccinated.
Doctors say those people who are vaccinated might get infected but are not badly affected.
