Is Uganda representative Mukasa Mbidde dealings with Rwandan EALA speaker a cause for concern?

Ugandan representatives at the regional Parliament should first and foremost promote Uganda’s interests. But Mr Denis Mukasa Mbidde, serving his last term at the East African Legislative Assembly, and now aspiring to represent Masaka municipality in the Ugandan 11th Parliament, is being faulted for failing to push the Ugandan agenda at the regional Parliament.

Mbidde who reportedly last showed up for official EALA business in January 2019, is being faulted for going AWOL and leaning on Rwanda’s side.

In the wake of a silent inhouse fight at the East African Legislative Assembly parliament in Arusha, Ugandan representatives to that house are facing attacks from Kenyan legislator, Jematiah Sergon who on several occasions when given opportunity to speak throws abusive attacks to Uganda and the persona of president Yoweri Museveni.

This to Ugandan MPs is a matter of national interest but Mbidde is a no show despite the fact that the issue is feared to cause a diplomatic row between the two countries that for a long time have enjoyed cordial diplomatic ties.

The interests MP Sergon is serving in Arusha remain unknown but analysts say Sergon is doing a bidding for Rwanda, which currently has a border spat with Uganda.

Ugandan legislators such as Rose Akol, Mary Mugyenyi and Namara have formed a front at the floor to counter Sergon’s bile, but tactfully, Mbidde is missing in the House whenever Sergon attacks Uganda and Museveni, according to sources. Sergon goes to attack Uganda on social media platforms of EALA like “WhatsApp and Facebook”.

Classified intelligence indicate that Sergon was behind the demonstration of Ugandan and Kenyan students at the University of Nairobi who demonstrated against president Museveni who had been invited by his Kenyan counterpart president Uhuru Kenyetta to give a lecture to the students at the university in June this year. Sergon’s clandestine political maneuver attacks are matters that Uganda’s External Security Organization agents both in Arusha and Nairobi who have interested themselves to establish the driving forces behind her.

Sergon aside, another intriguing issue involves the undertakings at the Arusha based regional Parliament where the Speaker and Mbidde are said to be in bed and transact funds without EALA interests at heart.

A whistle blower to this fact at the Arusha based regional Parliament revealed that Mbidde often shows up at the Speaker’s office to demand for the pay. EALA speaker who is Rwandan, always generously releases funds to Mbidde despite his absence at the floor of Parliament on numerous occasions. This has made many people question the dealings between Mbidde and the EALA speaker.

The relationship between the speaker of EALA and Ugandan MP when it comes to financial transactiond is now a matter of interest. Some say, Rwanda might be using the EALA speaker office to fund Mbidde political chieftaincy in Uganda.

For now, Mbidde has outspent all his competitors in the Madam’s race even before the official campaign window has opened and he is still spending.
