A 19-year-old new mother is being held at Apac Police Station after allegedly burying her baby alive after her parents denied her food.

The two-months baby boy was buried after it’s 19-year-old mother, a resident of Awiri Village, Kidilani Parish in Chegere Sub-county disappeared for a couple of days.

Residents say the girl had been denied food because she had given birth to a bastard child.

According to Patrick Okello, a concerned resident, when she returned after disappearing for three days, she was was pressured to disclose the whereabouts of her child, only to confess that she had buried the baby alive.

“She told us that she buried the child over frustration that her family has neglected her and the baby,” Mr Okello told a local daily.

Catherine Eunice Agwang, Officer in Charge of Criminal investigations in Apac, confirmed the incident, and noted that they were investigating the matter.

“We are going to seek a court order to allow us exhume the body and examine it to find the exact cause of the child’s death,” she said.
