Kabale district has received 120,000 kilograms of rice as a relief from the office of the Prime Minister.
The rice will be shared by all the households in the district.
Catherine Ndamira Atwakire, the Kabale district Member of Parliament revealed this on Sunday during a press conference in Kabale town.
Ndamira revealed that the relief came into effect as a result of hunger, which had hit the people of Kabale.
“We have done this to rescue our people that have been hit by hunger,” Ndamira said.
She said heavy rains had plagued the district that led to poor production of food thus causing hunger to her constituents.
The legislator also condemned the poor methods of farming in Kabale advising the populace to embrace modern farming methods to ensure food security.
Earlier this year, president Yoweri Museveni while on his visit in Kigezi Sub region condemned land fragmentation, saying it doesn’t favor modern, extensive farming.
Kabale district is one of the densely populated districts in the country and largely depends on Agriculture.
