Gen. Tumwine wants MPs Cecilia Ogwal and Atkins Katusabe to apologise

Security Minister Gen. Elly Tumwine has said the two legislators accusing him of being a bully don’t like him to talk about his achievements as a freedom fighter.

Tumwine accuses Dokolo Woman Member of Parliament Cecilia Ogwal and Bukonjo West MP Godfrey Atkins Katusabe of hating him because of successful stories behind him and his National Resistance Movement (NRM) party.

Last month Gen. Tumwine was suspended from Parliament due to his alleged contempt of the House, disrespecting the Speaker and insulting Ogwal for having testified against him for allegedly pointing a gun at her during the seventh Parliament. Because of this, he was ordered to appear before Parliament’s disciplinary committee to review his actions against Ogwal and disrespecting utterances against Parliament and Speaker.

On Wednesday the report was tabled and Tumwine was found guilty of assaulting Ogwal and disrespecting Parliament.

While addressing the press conference on Thursday at Parliament, Tumwine said there is a group of MPs who hate them (freedom fighters) and want to erase them out of history.

“These who are stopping us from talking about the achievements of the NRM are lying. We very well know that there is a section of MPs propagating lies to tarnish my name and that of other historicals,” said Tumwine.

“I think MP Katusabe and his wife had planned everything to damage my name. I’m concerned that there are people whose efforts and minds are trying to stop me from talking about the good things of the Movement and where we’ve come from,” he noted.

He added that he has defended Parliament for over 33 years and nobody else he knows loves Parliament as he does.

“When I’m speaking, I use my finger. Hon. Cecilia Ogwal went ahead to say I used it as a gun. In Parliament we don’t carry guns, we use our words and brains to argue,” he said.

Tumwine also demanded that both Ogwal and Katusabe apologise to him for blackmailing him and disrespecting his achievements.

“I’m here waiting for Hon Cecilia Ogwal’s apology regarding her accusations of me pointing a gun towards her. I’m also waiting for an apology from Hon. Katusabe because he and his wife abused my efforts and willingness to solve a problem. I’m willing to solve this matter with anybody. If you’re a leader, be ready to be talked about. People are free and that’s the freedom we fought for. Those who don’t want to talk about the freedom we fought for should go to hell,” said Tumwine.
