United Nations Guard Unit Five (UNGU V) has handed over security functions to the incoming UNGU VI in the Somali capital Mogadishu.

The function was presided over by the UPDF Commander Land Forces (CLF) Lt Gen Peter Elwelu who cautioned the incoming force to guard against anything that tarnishes the good image of Uganda.

“You are Ambassadors here. Keep our flag high”, he said. The General also advised the newly deployed soldiers in Mogadishu to work as a team and always promote comradeship.

The CLF also commended the outgoing Guard Unit Under the Command of Col Stuart Agaba for serving a full year in a foreign mission. He observed that though some challenges occurred, the core tasks of the mission were achieved. The General thanked the outgoing forces for a job well done.

Col Stuart Agaba and the incoming Commander Lt Col Nathan Beinomugisha, thanked the UPDF leadership for honouring them with the noble task of serving in a multinational mission. “I pledge not to shame my country Uganda”, said the incoming commander.

The function was attended by the Special Representative of the UN Secretary General (SRSG), Ambassador James Swan who later flagged off the new guard Unit.

The function was also attended by Sector One Operations Officer who represented the Contingent Commander and the sector Chief Administration Officer (CAO) Col Elvis Byamukama among others.
