On Tuesday morning, police led an operation in Kinoonya Zone, Masanafu Village in Rubaga Division in Kampala after a tip off about rogue elements at a rented house.
In the process, a shootout ensued in which one of the police officers conducting the operation was injured.
“He is and currently out of danger but we managed to arrest one armed identified as Stanley Mulunda,” the police say in statement.
“His accomplice escaped, but our officers were able to identify him as Ricahrd Kasirye. We shall track him down.”
In the rented apartment, police recovered two rifles, two magazines with 32 live ammunitions, a number plate UAM 046J, a hammer and some document suspected to be from court.
In the other incident, two women – Harriet Naluwadde, 33 and Moreen Nakabubi, 25 – were on Monday night shot dead after armed robbers raided a mobile money shop in Zana cell, Bunamwaya, Makindye-Ssabagabo in Waskiso District.
Naluwadde and Nakabubi formerly of Zana cell were shot dead by the thugs – believed to be five – at 10.45pm.
“It is alleged that five thugs riding on three unidentified motor cycles robbed the victims of unspecified amount of money before shooting them dead. They were shot near their shop as they were heading home. We want to thank the area police (Kirimanyanga police post) for responding in time and the 999 patrol for coordinating the search for the thugs,” Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Mr Patrick Onyango said in a statement he issued on Tuesday.
Mr Onyango further noted that investigations into the shooting continue and appealed to members of the public to volunteer any information in regard to this incident.
