The Kabale woman Member of Parliament has advised people to adopt commercial agriculture in a move to kick poverty out of their families.
Hon. Catherine Ndamira Atwakire made this call Monday in the parishes of Rwene and Buhara in Buhara subcounty, Kabale district while delivering a total of 36 piglets to selected farmers.
According to Ndamira, a very big number of people in Kabale district are involved in subsistence agriculture that has kept them in dire poverty.
While in the delivering the piglets, Hon .Ndamira advised the selected farmers to look after them with a lot of care in order benefit from them.
Musiimenta Goreti, one of the selected 36 farmers, said she was hopeful that she would get out of poverty if her piglets delivered to her expectations.
Baryamujura Joseph, the Buhara subcounty Local council chairperson speaking at the same function advised the selected farmers against selling the piglets that are meant to save them from poverty.
Since September last year, Buhara subcounty has received 146 piglets from Catherine Ndamira Atwakire in her initiative to get rid of household poverty from Kabale district. She has distributed at least 2,000 piglets in the district since September.
