The Director of Sharia, Uganda Muslim Supreme Council (UMSC) Sheikh Yahaya Ibrahim Kakungulu has appealed to Muslims in Uganda to look out for the moon during the evening of Saturday 4th May 2019 because it will be the 29th day of the Islamic month of Shaban 1440AH.

This was revealed during a Press Conference held on Friday at the UMSC Headquarters Old Kampala.

The Director of Sharia said if the moon is sighted that evening, this year’s month of Ramadhan will commence on Sunday 5th May 2019.

“Failure to sight the moon on Saturday May 4th means fasting the Holy Month of Ramadhan will automatically commence on Monday 6th May 2019” the Director of Sharia said.

He said whoever sights the moon or is in possession of reliable information should pass it over to UMSC  on telephone numbers; Director of Sharia – 0772/702-525171, Public Relations Officer (Haji Nsereko Mutumba) – 0772409504 and Registrar of Sharia (Shk. Twaib Ali Mpanso) – 0782306313/0702491162.

He urged Muslims to welcome the holy month with happiness.
