The senior pastor of Revival Christian Church Kawaala, Augustine Yiga was on Monday evening, February 11  released from Kawempe Police cells were he has been detained over the weekend.

According to Yiga’s lawyer, Evans Ochieng, his client’s DNA sample was taken in order to get to the bottom of allegations that the maverick pastor had raped an underage girl and that he had neglected the offspring.  He was later released on police bond.

On February 8, a lady identified as Angel Ainembabazi recorded a statement at the police station, claiming that Yiga raped her in 2014 and she conceived.

She narrates that at the age of 15, she had a lot of problems and decided to go to the pastor’s church for prayers. On arrival, she was requested to pay Shs100,000 to see the pastor privately.

“I paid the money because I badly wanted to see the pastor. When I met him, he told me to wait till night. I was called into his office and he started praying while undressing me claiming that it’s the fastest way demons can get out of my body. I tried to resist but he was stronger than me and no one was around to help,” Ainembabazi narrated.

Ainembabazi claims that after the rape incident, she gave birth to a baby boy, but Yiga refused to take on his responsibilities and in addition, he has been threatening to harm her in case she reveals the incident.

Yiga had denied these allegations, claiming that there is someone (a fellow Pastor) behind this scandal, trying to tarnish his reputation.

He has been instructed to report back to Kawempe Police station on February 18.
