Early this week, social media was awash with reports that First Son Maj Gen Muhoozi Kaneirugaba caused a scuffle at Sky Lounge Bukoto on New Year.

According to screen shots shared on social media by one of the partygoers present at the venue, when the Senior Presidential Advisor for Special Operations entered the bar, he had a brief exchange with city makeup artists Zipper Atafo and Peter Russell before he allegedly told another partier to remove his red beret. The partygoer also claims that Gen Muhoozi’s ‘boys’ were about to beat up the two stylists.

In a nine second video also making rounds on social media, the First Son is seen standing amidst taunting revelers.

However, on Thursday Muhoozi’s spokesperson came out to clear the air about the incident.

In a statement, Major Chris Magezi said, “the misrepresentations are lies intended to spite and project a negative image of what was otherwise a happy occasion he attended”.

“Gen. Keinerugaba spent only 30 minutes at this venue and left with other colleagues. There was neither commotion nor any issues with anyone as projected on social media.”

Who are Atafo and Russell?

Zipper Atafo real names Meddie Matovu and is one of the best makeup artists in the country.

The 27-year-old is an Information Technology graduate.

His list of clients includes celebrities such as Irene Ntale, Iryn Namubiru, Leila Kayondo and Judith Heard among others.

In an interview with Daily Monitor in 2015, Atafo revealed, “I started doing makeup way back in high school. I remember always carrying a makeup bag with Johnson powder in it. I would apply it on my face and urge girls to use it as well. Besides the passion that I had for the profession, I was also inspired by my late mother, Rehema Nansamba who loved wearing makeup. In order to perfect the act, I watched a lot of tutorial makeup videos and tried out different sessions of what I had learnt by working on my female friends,”

His breakthrough as a professional makeup artiste came to pass in 2013 after doing two high end weddings that was attended by influential persons and some of Kampala’s socialites.

“Some kept asking who had done the makeup of the girls in the bridal entourage and when word went round that I was the one, I had the opportunity to meet and exchange contacts with them. From that point on, I began working with different celebrities as well,”

On the other hand Peter Russell is also a makeup artist running the game in the city.

Peter Russell

Born Peter Mugisha, Russell attended Seeta High and St. Mary’s Secondary, Kitende, before joining Makerere University where he pursued a Bachelors degree in Industrial Art.
