Government spokesperson Ofwono Opondo is already in the bad books of his relatives after arresting and imprisoning his blood brother for holding a different political ideology from his.

On Wednesday, Opondo was accused by some of his family members for arresting Dem Gaster Opondo for allegedly supporting Kyadondo East Member of Parliament Bobi Wine and his ‘People Power’ movement.

Gaster was arrested on December 27 by unknown people and whisked away in Ofwono’s vehicle from their country home in Tororo District, according to Yona Okoth Opondo, also brother to the government mouthpiece.

“Gaster’s troubles started when he declared in October last year that he supports People Power,” said Yona.

Adding, “He had travelled to the village for Christmas holiday. He was briefly detained at Tororo Central Police Station before being driven to Kabalagala Police Station in Kampala but up to date he has not made a statement and we have failed to secure a police bond for him.”

Before his arrest Gaster had attacked his elder brother, whom he described as greedy, and accused him of grabbing land belonging to Mulanda Church of Uganda in Tororo District.

He had also posted on his facebook page that President Yoweri Museveni was one of Uganda’s major problems which needed to be dealt with.

Gaster’s numerous attacks did not go well with Ofwono thus opting to teach him a lesson.

The victim’s wife, Judith Kembabazi said her brother-in-law mishandled the whole matter.

“Yesterday I managed to access my husband and he told me he is in pain. He injured his left hand but police has refused us to take him out to see the doctor. We are now waiting for him to be taken to court and we take him for treatment,” Kembabazi told one of the local news sites yesterday.
