Flags will fly at half mast on Friday

The First Deputy Prime Minister Moses Ali has declared Friday 30, a national day for mourning in honor of victims of the ill-fated MV Templa boat that capsized on Lake Victoria at the weekend.

Gen. Ali made the announcement Tuesday afternoon at Parliament.

It is however, not a public holiday but flags at all government offices will fly at a half mast.

The announcement came after a section of MPs requested that government calls for a day to allow relatives mourn their loved ones. As of Tuesday, only 33 bodies had been retrieved from the lake while the number of survivors, including Buganda Kingdom prince David Wasajja and Hope Mukasa, has been put at 26.

The boat, which capsized a few meters to Mitala beach, was reportedly carrying about 120 passengers.

In a related development, Minister for Works Ntege Azuba has revelaed that security agencies have been ordered to arrest anyone found operating any vessel without operator licenses and lifesaving kits

The search for missing persons continues.
