Doris Akol handed new Uganda Revenue Authority contract

Doris Akol has been handed another four-year contract to lead Uganda’s tax collecting body.

The third consecutive female boss at Uganda Revenue Authority, Akol’s new contract came in while still on her maternity leave after delivering twins in late September.

Finance Minister Matia Kasaija and the Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) board in September recommended that she is given another term as Commissioner General URA.


Akol replaced Allen Kagina who had served URA for 22 years, 10 years of those at its helm after her appointment by Maria Kiwanuka, the then Minister of Finance, Planning and Economic Development, on October 27, 2014. She assumed office on October 30, 2014.

A lawyer by profession, Akol joined joined URA in 1995 as a Legal Officer. From 2012 until 2014, she was the Commissioner for Legal Affairs and Board Matters at the tax body. In that capacity, she also served as the Company’s Legal Secretary.
