Celebrity US couple Kanye and Kim Kardashian West have cut their two-week trip to Uganda short.
The ‘Gold Digger’ singer and his wife Kim, the face of ‘Keeping Up with Kardashians’ reality TV show, flew out of the country on Tuesday evening. This after they had carried out a ‘charity show’ at Masulita Children’s Home, in Luwero, about two hours from the capital city, Kampala.
The pair donated hundreds of white Yeezy Adidas sneakers to the 100-plus orphans at the orphanage, just like the kind given to President Museveni during a State House visit on Monday morning.
‘Kimye’, a sweetened version of Kim and Kanye were booked for a Gorrila trekking expedition in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest due Wednesday.
According to sources, the two, plus their handlers and five-year-old daughter North West, were flown by an army chopper from Luwero to Entebbe Old Airport where they had hangared their private jet last week.
‘They had accomplished what they came here to do. The songs were done, and they helped promote Uganda’s tourism,’ a source in the government of Uganda, privy to the couple’s visit to the Pearl of Africa said.
However, other sources claimed Kanye’s (renamed Kanyesigye by President Museveni,) managers in US became frustrated by the deviation from the programme set before ‘Kimye’ arrived on Friday evening.
‘They were supposed to be here on vacation. Only for them to end up distributing shoes at an orphanage founded and funded by the First Lady,’ the source told Watchdog Uganda.
The visit to the State House, Entebbe on Monday was so low key, even staff members of were informed just three minutes before a private government chopper landed in the lush greens of the President’s residence.
However, Kanye’s team has promised that that the rapper will return to accomplish the projects he had set out to achieve.
