Ykee Benda kinda feels like ‘Superman’ now after he received his first international award. Benda was voted Best New Comer in the All Africa Music Awards (Afrimma) awards 2018.
He was in this race with artistes like Distruction boys (South Africa), Afro B (Ivory Coast), Dice Ailes (Nigeria), Arrow Boy (Kenya), Mayorkun (Ghana) Kuami Eugene (Ghana), Tenor (Cameroon).
Eddy Kenzo also scooped an award as the best East African Male Artiste 2018; he was battling with musical giants such as Diamond Platinaum, Alikiba, BebeCool, Sauti Sol, Radio and Weasel among others.
Cindy, Sheebah, Rema, Leila Kayondo, Sasha Vybz were some of the Ugandan nominees that left empty handed.
The Afrima awards is an annual award show that was established by international committee in collaboration with African Union to reward and celebrate musical works and talent all around Africa. The ceremony was held in Nigeria.
