In a bid to improve and promote security in Ntungamo District, the district security committee has resolved to pass an ordinance to ban all shops that deals in general merchandise but also sells some sorts of spirits.
Addressing the community members recently during the swearing in of village chairpersons for Kagarama Town council held at Kagaram town council offices in Kajara county Ntungamo district, Justine Mbabazi the RDC Ntungamo revealed that the committee resolved that the bar owners must operate in appropriate time from 2pm -10pm.
Mbabazi noted that all bar owners must adhere to the ordinance accordingly and anyone who found operating a bar in the morning or beyond 10 pm will be arrested.
She added that some shop owners have been disguising themselves opening in the morning to sell alcohol instead of general merchandise noting that they should separate the business but not mixing the issues.
‘ Some business owners are having attendance of opening in the morning hours giving excuse that they are selling general merchandise but behind they are selling alcohol, so they must separate the business but not mixing them if they are to remain in the business’, RDC said.
RDC Mbabazi said that alcoholism has increased insecurity and domestic violence in the area thus must be stopped.
The village chairpersons and community members welcomed the move noting that it has been the issue in Ntungamo district.
