Hundreds of thousands of Muslims on Friday responded to His Eminence the Mufti of Uganda Shk. Shaban Ramadhan Mubaje’s call by converging at their respective Mosques allover Uganda to pray for the nation.

The main prayers were held at the UMSC Headquarters Old Kampala and presided over by His Eminence the Mufti.

In his message to the congregation and to the nation, the Mufti said that, following the rampant unresolved murders and other forms of injustice in the country, he agreed with other Muslim leaders to hold a nation wide prayer to seek further spiritual intervention from Allah.

“We are praying for those who were murdered, those who are in prison (especially the ones imprisoned for crimes they did not commit), those who are receiving death threats, the leader of the nation and the nation at large” the Mufti said noting that;

“This is a purely spiritual matter, not political and that is why Amiir Daula Shk. Sulaiman Kakeeto, Amiir Ummah Mu’alim Ahmad Haruna Kasujja Mutakubila and Amiir SPIDQA Shk. Mubarak Megerwa are here”.

He urged government officials to support the President’s efforts for peace and development in the country.

“However well intentioned a leader may be, if he is surrounded by uncooperative people, his efforts can not yield fruits” the Mufti said.

He called for a concerted effort to empower the youth economically saying that most of the inmates he met in Luzira prison were youth in their twenties.

“They all claimed that their current status was caused by unemployment” said the Mufti.

In his remarks, the Mufti also informed the congregation that, following Wednesday’s unfortunate incident at Makindye Military Police Headquarters when he was denied access to the detainees, the military police leadership realised their mistake and allowed him and his delegation to meet Abdallah Kitata on Thursday.

“They apologised and gave us full access, and we are very grateful” the Mufti said.

He thanked President Museveni, the Rt. Hon. Prime Minister Dr. Ruhakana Rugunda and the 1st Deputy Prime Minister Rt. Hon. Moses Ali for supporting his initiative to pray for the nation and to reach out to those in prison.

He noted that his initiative is strictly about promoting access to justice for those in prison and victims of murder.

Today’s special Juma prayers at the UMSC Headquarters Old Kampala were led by the National Mosque Imam Shk. Hussein Rajab Kakooza while the sermon was delivered by the Assistant Imam Shk. Juma Ali Shiwuyo.

Tha father to the late ASP Muhammad Kirumira was part of the congregation.
