Kigezi region, that has got all the five gorilla tracking zones in the country receives 300 tourists on average, according to Lillian Kamusiime the vice chairperson of Uganda safari guides association (USAGA).
The five gorilla tracking zones of Ruhija, Rushaga, Buhoma, Nkuringo and Mgahinga are very busy in this season of tourists.
While speaking to our reporter on Tuesday, Kamusiime confirmed that some tracking zones are busy, to the extent that they host more than 100 tourists per day.
There are seasons in a year when the tourists flock the country, mostly from July to August and from January to February.
Gorilla tracking is one of the most preferred tourism activity in the whole world. Gorillas are only found in the countries of Uganda, Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo. Recently, gorilla tracking in the DRC was suspended until further notice after the terrorists attacked the park.
Uganda is receiving a larger number of tourists than before because Rwanda increased gorilla price tickets.
Watching a gorilla in Uganda costs 600 US dollars, compared to Rwanda where it’s about 1500 US dollars.
So many people From Kigezi region have benefited a lot from tourism, as tour operators, tour guides and other service providers.
