On Monday, Birungi Simpson, the owner of Movit Products Limited was freed by the Internal Security Organization (ISO) after spending 45 days in detention.
Birungi was arrested by armed forces on June 7th while answering a bond at Kibuli Police on allegations of murdering his former manager Stephen Asaba.
Asaba was murdered and his body dumped in Nakawuka in Kajjansi town council, Wakiso district.
The family represented by Birungi’s wife Sheila Kyokusiima last month sued the director general of ISO, Inspector General of Police (IGP), Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence (CMI) and attorney general (AG) whom she claimed were holding her husband illegally since the law requires them to produce him in court within 48hrs after arrest.
This prompted High Court Judge Musa Ssekaana to direct for the immediate release of Birungi though his decision was downplayed by the security agency until Uganda Law Society moved to pile pressure on ISO boss by threatening to sue him for abducting people and holding them incommunicado for months.
After his Birungi’s release, one of his friends Balaam Barugahara went on his Facebook Page and warned all haters to stop spreading false news against him (Birungi).
Balaam wrote, “Thank you to all those who played a hand through prayers mostly . Our dear friend Birungi Simpson Akiiki the humble ,polite and kind man Md Chairman Movit Group of companies is out unconditional realize.
