After the timely servicing completion of the cobalt 60 radiotherapy machine, the normal full capacity operations of the radiotherapy machine services resumed on Monday 11th June 2018.

The management of Uganda cancer institute yesterday revealed that the servicing of the cobalt 60 radiotherapy machine has been completed and that the services has resumed fully.

According to the statement seen by this site signed by the executive director of the Uganda cancer institute Dr. Jackson oryem, the service was successfully done over the weekend from 9th to 10th June 2018 by the designated technician from Czech Republic Bednar Andrej together with Ugandan local technicians.

The government through the ministry of health with the Uganda cancer institute last month refuted claims in the media that the cobalt 60 radiotherapy machine at the Uganda cancer institute was no longer functional revealing that it was the number of cancer patients treated per day that was scaled down.

The radiotherapy machine which was installed in the late October and became functional in November 2017 allegedly broke down in April this year leaving many cancer patients struggling for their lives.

Dr. Oryem revealed that according to the advice from the manufacturers, the next routine service is scheduled for October 2018.

He also called upon the general public to seek the machine services as well as other cancer treatment services reassuring the public of the commitment to provide best services.
