A total of 270 officers who previously served under Flying Squad police unit will go through a three day screening exercise for new assignments.
Recently, the Inspector General of Police Martin Okoth Ochola disbanded the unit thus transferring its commandant Herbert Muhangi to the Human Resource Management department.
Flying Squad was replaced with a new unit, the Organised Crime Department under the supervision of Senior Superintendent of Police Mark Odong.
Flying Squad was formed to fight violent crimes such as robberies and kidnaps. Hundreds of its officers would later get ensnared in gross misconduct, risking their professions and sullying the image of police.
By February, the Police Professional Standards Unit was investigating 213 cases against FSU personnel lodged by both civilians and police officers, including torture, robbery and extortion.
