Joshua Cheptegei has won a gold medal for Uganda in the men’s 5000m at the ongoing Common Wealth Games 2018 in Australia.
Last year, Cheptegei broke hearts of many Ugandans in the IAAF World Cross-country Championships when he lost his lead with about 900m to go. He horribly faded, letting Kenyan Geoffrey Kamworor to retain his title.
Towards the final lap, Cheptegei charged and broke away in blistering speed to send Kololo in a frenzy.
But today, the athlete has made his country proud after scooping a win with Canada’s Mohammed Ahmed and bronze for Kenya’s Edward Pingua Zakayo.
Cheptegei, who won silver at World Championships in London last year, today crossed the line in a time of 13:50:83.
