Man steals goods worth shs523m after issuing bounced cheques

Kampala Metropolitan Police have arrested a man for allegedly obtaining goods by false pretence and issuing a bounced cheque.

The suspect identified as Edwin Bekunda Atukunda, founder of Edwin Foundation Tea Initiative (EFOTI) issued a bounced cheque Shs10 million to a client which led to his arrest.

His arrested triggered hundreds of suspect’s creditors to flock Kampala Metropolitan Police headquarters.

The outgrowers said he had got seedlings from them but had failed to pay and gone into hiding.
The total claim from out growers is to the tune of Shs523 million.

However, some of the complaints are civil in nature and complainants were advised to seek remedies in courts of law.

The suspect has been transferred to Fort Portal to face criminal cases obtaining money by false pretenses and issuing a false cheque.
