COSAFA U-20: Uganda Hippos Settle for 4th Position after losing to Egypt

Uganda National Under 20 side settled for third place at the 2017 Mopani Copper COSAFA U-20 Championships in Zambia

The Hippos lost 3-1 to Egypt in the third place play off match played at the Arthur Davies Stadium in Kitwe on Saturday.

Shaban Muhammed scored the consolation for Uganda as he also finished as the tournament top scorer.

Roshdi Ashraf scored a brace in the 19th and 59th minutes before Abdelrahman Amr’s 90th minute winner.

Shaban had scored the equalizer a minute to the mandatory half time break.

Uganda Hippos head coach Mathias Lule praised the organizers of this tournament for the opportunity of inviting the Ugandan team, FUFA for granting the chance, the technical team as well as the players for the brave fight throughout the duration of the tourney.

‘In a special way, i would love to thank the organizers of COSAFA U-20 championship for inviting us. This tournament is a developmental event and we have learnt a lot. I also thank FUFA, Technical team and my players for the enormous effort’ Lule stated.

Muhammed Shaban finished as top scorer with 4 goals.

The tournament was won by South Africa who beat Lesotho 2-1 in the well contested final.

Last year, Zambia were the champions.

Uganda’s delegation returns on Monday.
