A source close to Robert Mugabe’s aides revealed that Mugabe has been having a hard time coming to terms with the betrayal by his trusted lieutenants.

He has not been taking regular meals or baths since Wednesday and it has taken the intervention of Father Fidelis Mukonori to get him to eat or take a shower.

On Thursday before he met the Generals he is said to have broken down and started crying. He was wailing profusely saying he wished his first wife Sally Mugabe was still around. He even invoked the name of his late son Nhamodzenyika.

Since the day he met the Generals at State House, he has cast a lonely figure. Only a few relatives are allowed to meet with him. He spends most of his time looking at an old photo of Sally.

Mugabe is known to have been an introvert and lonely figure from childhood. There are very few people that he can confide in. It looks as though currently he only trusts Catholic Church Archdiocese of Harare’s Father Fidelis Mukonori .

“He has been at his side trying to console him. He sees his lawyers but with them it is strictly business.” Added the source.
