According to the Regional Police spokesperson, Josephine Angucia, many of such suspects are still at large and that they have been involved in stealing cars from Uganda and trading them in neighboring DRC.

“They either steal by pretending to be hiring them or steal directly from the owners and drivers,” Angucia explained, “after successfully crossing the border with these motor vehicles to DRC, it becomes difficult to recover them”

Angucia explained the arrest that, “It is alleged that a one Samonga in the DRC sent Byamukama, Musana and others still at large to go and hire a FUSO lorry in Iganga with a claim of coming to transport honey. It was loaded but on reaching Arua, Samonga reported sent Yada and Mugisha to go and chloroform the FUSO driver and the turn man in order to cross the vehicle into the DRC. In the process, the Flying Squad laid a trap and arrested the four ”

This though was not the first time, the other vehicles allegedly stolen by the said suspects include a motor vehicle registration number UAP 149Q where the driver was hijacked by the suspects and Congolese army.

Another vehicle, registration number UAY 446L was on 10/11/2017 stolen from Iganga but the suspects attempt to snuggle it to the DRC was foiled.

The Police also recovered master keys, breaking equipment, chloroform, motor vehicles and Jerry cans.
