The intelligence led operation was intended to round up wrong elements in the community. The action comes in the wake of a spate of property snatching, heightening assault complaints and other urban related criminal cases in the town.
The operation, according to the OC Operations CPS Kampala Cadet ASP Nduhura Ivan would remain until the situation downtown stabilises and crime rate subsides. He claimed they had learnt that there were groups of people vending marijuana and other related drugs threatening traders,a situation that was quiet worrying to the public.
These operations are part of the security preparations head of the coming Christmas Festive Season.
“We cannot allow business owners to be intimidated by thugs. We have decided to deploy officers uniformed and non uniformed to ensure that no one interferes with businesses so we are carrying out security operations, arresting suspects on our criminal watch lists and searching areas that harbour wrong characters particularly those in black spots where criminals hide and harm residents,” C/ASP Nduhura said.
