The Minister of Finance, Planning & Economic Development Matia Kasaija has appointed Patrick Ayota as the Deputy Managing Director effective 29th October 2017, for a period of 5 years, replacing Geraldine Ssali Busuulwa.

Ayota has been NSSF’s Chief Finance Officer.

The Board passed Mr Ayote’s name despite the fact MD Richard Byarugaba had another preferred candidate.

This website last week put its money on three names, and zeroed on two; Ayote and Jean Mutabazi in its October 16, 2017 report “Who is likely to replace Geraldine Ssali at NSSF?” (https://www.watchdoguganda.com/likely-replace-geraldine-ssali-nssf/).

Ayote who had actually sat an interview for the Deputy MD and beat all other candidates, before Byarugaba and Geraldine Ssali were re-appointed. Ayote was asked to return to his job as head of Finance.

Mr Patrick Byabakama Kaberenge led board was cited in Daily Monitor as having fired Geraldine on grounds that she did not impress the board in her performance.

It’s understood that Ms Ssali has been having a rocky relationship with her bosses as she always preferred to follow the law and procedures to the letter. Her work methods Led to the board attempting to throw her out in 2016 which forced her to go to court.

President Museveni having received a briefing at the Fund ordered her reinstatement. However the Finance minister Matia Kasaija who is part of the Kaberenge-Byarugaba axis demanded that she withdraws the case from court before she’s allowed back. Ssali didn’t accept. She went ahead and won sh250 million.

41 year old Ssali had served as Deputy MD of NSSF in since March 2011, having been appointed in the position by then Fiance Minister Syda Bbumba.

Apparently,  Richard Byarugaba has been re-appointed as the Managing Director, for a five-year period effective 1st December 2017.
