NRM Chief Whip Ruth Nankabirwa on Wednesday said that the amending article 102b of the constitution will generally benefit the youth since an 18 year old person will be able to stand for president.

Speaking in a caucus meeting attended by 287 NRM MPs, Nankabirwa said the presidential age qualification will now be 18 years or above with no upper limit.

Hill Water

Today NRM MPs are going to table a private members bill before parliament which shall see President Yoweri Museveni rule beyond 75 years of age.

However, age limit bill opponents are putting a strong resistance on the move by the incumbent party saying the amendment is aimed at paving way for Museveni’s life presidency plan.

Meanwhile, security has been beefed up in every corner of the city to refrain any planned procession ahead of the highly heated debate.

Since morning a number of protesters especially from Makerere University have been arrested and some dispersed by use of tear gas.
