The Executive Director of Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) has on Wednesday offered a conditional lift to ABS TV’s license which was suspended last week over repeated breach of minimum broadcasting standards.

The broadcasting license has been conditionally lifted for a period six months as the commission review, evaluate and monitor all the station’s programs and content to ensure that they are appropriately modified to conform to the law and minimum broadcasting standards.

In a letter issued on 13 September, 2017, Mutabazi reveals UCC and ABS TV management held several meetings and the station acknowledged its actions and undertook to ensure that all programs and content broadcasted on ABS are in line with the law and the minimum broadcasting standards.

“After considering the measures proposed by the management of ABS Television, and in a bid to grant ABS Television another opportunity to prove its commitment to ensure that all programs and content do not breach the law and the minimum broadcasting standards, the Uganda Communications Commission has, in accordance with section 41(2)(a) of the Uganda Communications Act 2013, resolved to CONDITIONALLY LIFT the suspension of ABS Television broadcasting license for a period of months from date hereof,” stated Mutabazi.

The commission further warned ABS TV owned by city pastor Augustine Yiga of Kawaala Revival Church that if it fails to fulfill its commitment to appropriately modify its content, UCC once again revoke the license without any further notice.

“By copy of this letter , all signal distributors are hereby authorized to resume broadcasting ABS Television content on all licensed broadcasting platforms until otherwise directed,” ordered Mutabazi.
