Workers under the umbrella of the National Organization of Trade Union (NOTU) have advised Finance minister Matia Kasaija to peacefully put the ministry of Finance out of National Social Security Fund (NSSF) money issues.
This was in a press briefing that was held by NOTU at the Eureka hotel in Ntinda where workers believe the Ministry of finance is a wrong office to handle issues like this.
Werikhe Christopher Peter, the NOTU General Secretary said that he wonders how Kasaija can manage NSSF money when actually he has failed to manage a small economy of the country like Uganda.
“The people in the ministry of Finance think God gave them the Garden of Eden, where they can just eat anything at any time” said Werikhe.
With their anger they have opened up a case against the ministry of finance and have requested the court to intervene with in a period of 28 days where if nothing has been done, they shall bring their energy to the streets.
According to this group, they do believe that the issues concerning the NSSF and Uganda Registration Service Bureau (URSB) money should be handled by the ministry of Gender, Labour and social development.
“we don’t even know why money goes missing from those who claim to have studied finance” Said Werikhe.
Agnes Kim Atwooki, the chairperson for women workers of NOTU said that she wonders where the minister of Finance gets authority to look after the NSSF money.
“I do believe it is the ministry of gender labor and social development that is supposed to be involved in this case” Said Atwooki.
She however pointed that NSSF money is not money for doing business for government bosses but to help innocent Ugandans in their future.
