The Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) on Tuesday subjected police officer Gilbert Arinaitwe Bwana to a mental and HIV tests following his arrests for allegedly raping a 18 year old student.
The CID spokesperson Vincent Ssekate said that both the suspect (Arinaitwe) and victim had been subjected to medical check-up. He said that the check-up is a routine procedure during investigations in cases of rape and defilement.
The mental test is aimed at sustaining whether the suspect is mentally stable and performed the ‘offence’ knowingly.
Arinaitwe’s rape case was confirmed by police spokesperson Asan Kasingye on Saturday last week.
He came in the limelight after he doused Dr. Kizza Besigye with pepper during his (Besigye’s) walk-to- work protests in 2011.
