With just one day remaining for residents of Kyadondo East to cast their votes which shall see one of the contenders sent to the 10th parliament to represent the area, the ruling party NRM has issued a statement alleging that opposition camps are planning to torture their voters today and on the voting day on Thursday.
According to Rogers Mulindwa, NRM Communications Officer, they have learnt of a plan by opposition camps in Kyadondo East Constituency of torturing voters on the voting day and in the night before.
“The plan to be reportedly implemented by opposition agents wearing NRM T-shirts or yellow shirts is intended to portray the ruling party as being non friendly to the people it serves. The main target behind this is to win sympathy from the voters. The opposition plans to use the same mission to scare away voters especially in NRM dominated parishes,” Mulindwa said.
“Our party members and the entire public is therefore warned against these groups. Please note that donning NRM yellow attires is not necessarily an assurance that one is a party member. Those reportedly planning to steer these actions are also warned to desist from such unconstitutional behavior,” He added.
Mulindwa advised that such cases should be reported to police or any other relevant authorities for timely actions.
On Tuesday during the last campaign day, there was unpaid for drama when police in Kasangati arrested singer Bobi Wine, one of the candidates in the highly heated race as he was about to stage his grand campaign. It alleged that his venue was against the Electoral Commission’s regulations.
Hours after his release, Mulindwa issued a statement claiming that NRM’s candidate Sebalu Sitenda was also arrested under unclear circumstances though he was later set free.
