No more sachet waragi starting from September as gov’t issues ‘restraining order’ on producers, sellers

The government of Uganda has passed a resolution to ban production and sale of alcohol sachets effective from 30th September 2017.

In December 2016, the Ministry issued a press brief and circulars informing Alcohol Sector stakeholders and the general public of the resolution by government to ban production and sale of alcohol in sachets.

“The Ministry also directed manufacturers to ensure that the position taken by government is implemented in a manner that does not exacerbate the challenges of alcohol abuse among our community. The District Local Authorities should ensure that while trade is not disrupted all unregistered alcohol should not be allowed in their areas,” Statement partly read.
