On Sunday during the burial ceremony of her father Mzee Boniface Byanyima, Winnie Byanyima warned President Yoweri Museveni and his NRM party not to bother using the high numbers they have in parliament to lift the presidential age limit which would give Museveni a go ahead to stand for another term.

“President Museveni and NRM, don’t be tempted to use your numbers to change the constitution and deny us the chance for a peaceful transfer of power,”???? said Oxfam boss.

Responding to the warning, senior presidential advisor on media issues, Tamale Mirundi has told Byanyima to first stop seconding her husband Dr. Kizza Besigye for presidency then NRM will also stop seconding Museveni for the new term.

“I heard Winnie say President Museveni should leave power, let her stop seconding Besigye for presidency then we shall also stop seconding Museveni for a new term,’’ said Mirundi while appearing on NBS’s One on One with Tamale Mirundi show.

Recently, Uganda’s main opposition party Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) launched a campaign against the amendment of the presidential age limit.

The campaign, dubbed “Time Up At 75” targeting Museveni who is supposed to be serving his last term.

Besigye noted that Ugandans will not watch as Museveni manipulates parliament to lift the age limit adding that the time was now for Ugandans to know that the president is after life presidency.

The 1995 Constitution bars any person above the age of 75years to contest for presidency.

Parliament can lift the restriction on age limit with a two thirds majority, which allows anyone above the age of 75 to contest for presidency.
