The Prime Minister of Buganda Kingdom Charles Peter Mayiga has said police’s act of torturing suspects being implicated in the murder of former police spokesperson AIGP Andrew Felix Kaweesi is a clear sign that the security organ lacks professionalism.
While addressing online media journalists at Bulange Mengo on Friday, Mayiga expressed his concern saying the skills used by officers to extract information from suspects were used in the 18th century and they do not apply in the current 21st century.
“There are many legal tactics police could use to extract information from suspects and torture is not one of them,”
The Buganda Premier advised government to professionalize security agencies in order to preserve human rights.
Mayiga’s comments comes at a moment when police is in the middle of crossroads after torturing over 13 murder suspects of AIGP Kaweesi.
Kaweesi was murdered on 17 March 2017 along with his bodyguard and driver on his way from his home in Kulambiro, a city suburb.
