Government has closed down 28 unlicensed gaming and betting shops for failure to meet the required standards.
The shops closed were located in the city suburbs of Bugolobi, Kawempe, Nakawa, kasubi and Bwaise.
This came at the moment when a team of enforcement officers at the Lotteries and Gaming Regulatory Board inspected the shops in the mentioned areas on Friday.
The inspection was ordered by the Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development .
According to the ministry, the shops were operating illegally in addition to being below the required minimum size of 39 square metres.
” We are closing operations of those machines that are not licensed as well as those that are not compliant to the law,” Head of Public and Corporate Affairs at the board, Jonathan Kyeyune said.
Some of the affected shops include Push to Win, Bet Win,Wolf Sports, Victory sports, Universal Gaming, Club Win among others.
