MP with sh105 million car dies in humble taxi accident on Jinja Road

Toroma County residents and Ugandans at large are saddened by the death of Cyrus Amodoi who has been the area MP.

Amodoi died in a nasty motor accident at Kitigoma on Jinja road last night while travelling in a taxi.

According to Chris Obore, Director, Communications & Public Affairs at Parliament of Uganda, Amodoi a retired soldier, had given his official car to Women leaders of Katakwi District who used it during the organization of International Women’s Day celebrations last week thus had resorted to using taxis as an alternative means of transport.

Savannah Regional Police spokesperson, Mr Lamek Kigozi said the accident involved three cars; two taxis, one from Old taxi park Reg. No UAW 200W heading to Mbale and another Reg. No. UAL 278F traveling to Busia and a Fuso truck Reg. No UAN 447X .

Ssezibwa region police commander, Mr Stephen Onenchan who visited the scene confirmed that the MP Amodoi was traveling in one of the taxis.

Meanwhile among other people, who died in the accident, include Mbale and Busia government officials.

Some of the dead have been identified as Busia councilor Mary Goretti Nafula, Lunyo Sub-county councillor Nafula, the driver Ronald Wabwire and a one Steven Oguttu. The others are Budaka District Personnel Officer Jerome Negule and Peter Shiminyu from Mbale District. Three people in the Busia-bound taxi died, preliminary reports show.
