When you hear the name Hamis Kiggundu(Ham), probably what runs through your mind is that young guy who has made a fortune on the list of Uganda’s richest businessmen within the shortest time possible.
Ham grew up in a family of six and has a Bachelor degree in law from Makerere University. He is a lawyer by profession.
Ham who is in his early 30s made his way to limelight a few years back when he set up a state of the art multi billion commercial building adjacent to Makerere University main gate known as Ham Towers.He also has other commercial buildings like Ham Shopping Grounds in the city centre.
The city tycoon is said to be worth $200m (roughly Shs600bn), Ham is the most promising and inspiring young billionaire whose source of income is mainly from imports and Real Estates.
He has one of the most expensive and luxurious homes in Uganda located on the shores of Lake Victoria.
In early Janaury2015, he met President Yoweri Museveni and briefed him about re-development of Nakivubo Stadium, a project he has partially undertaken as a Public Private Partnership with Nakivubo Stadium Board of Trustees. This is another multibillion projects under his name. In a largely reclusive Ugandan business-world.
Last year in June, it was alleged that the rich man was heavily indebted by Diamond Trust Bank and Orient Bank with shs38 billion and that he was running bankrupt.
However, he came out and dispelled the rumour citing that nothing had changed about his financial status.
Apparently Ham owns several businesses which include; Ham and brothers shops, Ham Fashions, Lora bags, A and Babies, Rafiq Home mart, Ham Towers, Pearl apartments in Bunga. Hannah Mixed, Ham shopping centre (down town Kampala), several plots of land in Ntinda and other parts of the city among others.
