The Cabinet minister for Public Service also Member of Parliament for Budyebo County,Wilson Muruli Mukasa has integrated the pension payroll, personnel and payroll system in the country.

Speaking to the press today at the Uganda Media Center, Muruli Mukasa said that this is the time for government to remove ghost workers from its payroll.

He says that government has been undertaking reforms to ensure efficiency and effectiveness in service delivery and particularly providing for timelines in processing and paying pensions and salaries for its workers.

“The ministry consequently decentralized pension management to votes of retirement” said Muruli.

According to the statement that he released, the verification exercise that began in 2015, has undertaken more time than the anticipated with a total number of 2181 unverified records worth UGX99462131 monthly having the last received pension in 2015.

The number of pensioners on payroll in the country as per June 2016 was 70,085 worth UGX 249,196,049,172 per annum.

To curb this grievance, the government has scheduled a census biometric validation of all pensioners and claimants, an exercise that will be conducted by the estate administrators from 13th February to 30th march 2017 at all district headquarters in Uganda.
