Government delivered 100 metric tonnes of food relief to the people of hunger stricken Karamoja.
The rampant hunger cases have claimed many lives of locals in the area.
The food relief was delivered by state Minister for Disaster Preparedness and Refugees, Musa Ecweru who said what the government supplied was not enough but it could help the affected people prepare porridge to enable them get strength to prepare gardens since rains have started.
Ecweru apologized on behalf of government for the people that have died of hunger-related deaths in Karamoja.
According to the LC3 of Rupa sub-county Apollo Dan Majory, his people had cultivated crops but the long dry spell left them with nothing to harvest.
“My people are not lazy but the weather betrayed them living some starving to death. The situation is bad and we pray that rains return early to enable our people cultivate first maturing crops” Majory said.
Since last year, several parts of Uganda especially in the Northern and Western areas have been severely affected by hunger due to prolonged drought.
