While appearing before the Parliamentary Committee on Commission of Statutory Authorities and State Enterprises (COSASE) today, The Uganda Revenue Authority Commissioner General, Doris Akol has denied being the initiator of the infamous shs6 billion Presidential handshake.

Akol revealed that it was the former Attorney General Fred Ruhindi, who first wrote to President Yoweri Museveni reminding him of his promise to reward the Uganda select team that helped URA trounce Oil Company Heritage in the London court case, to rake home up to USD 434 Million in Capital Gains Tax.

“Ruhindi letter was the very first one to the President. He humbly requested the president to consider a reward as promised in 2014 for the team for its exemplary service to the country,” Akol said.

She added: “After Attorney General’s letter, Museveni invited us at his country home in Rwakitura and directed me to propose the amount.”

The oil cash bonanza sparked public outrage where 42 senior government officials were awarded shs6 billion by President Museveni for their role in a capital gains tax dispute, in which the government was awarded a total of $700m.

Akol is one of the recipients of the shs6bn oil case bonus awarded to 42 government officials.

All the recipients of the oil cash bonuses will be appearing before the selected committee in the communicated time to follow.
