Edith Byanyima aunt to Matthew Kanyamunyu who is a prime suspect in the murder case of a child activist, Kenneth Akena, has refused to report to police today as earlier summoned.
Byanyima a sister to Oxfam boss Winnie Byanyima earlier today said she will not appear at police over the alleged sectarian comments.
Last week, Byanyima was summoned by police for allegedly uttering out sectarian statements accusing Acholi soldiers to have killed Kanyamunyu’s father.
In a letter forwarded to Byanyima, the acting deputy director Special Investigations Division in Kireka,Henry Mugumya said he was investigating a case of promoting sectarianism and incitement to violence and that she is required to report to his office on Monday.
“Pursuant to Section 27A of the police Act, you are required to report to the Special Investigations Division Kireka on Monday, January 23, 2017 at 1000hrs, to assist in providing valuable information in respect to the matter being investigated. You will report to the AG. Deputy Director for further guidance,” letter partially read.
Early last week through their family lawyer Ojok and Company Advocates, late Akena’s family wrote to the the Inspector General of Police, Gen Edward Kale Kayihura asking him to investigate on Byaniyima over her alleged media sectarian accusations on the people of Acholi.
