Flavia Tumusiime Kabuura, one of the best English news anchors in Uganda recently quit her job at NTV Uganda, leaving most of her fans wondering why she took such a decision.

Well, through her YouTube channel a few days ago, Tumusiime revealed that she never wanted to be a news anchor from day one, but NTV Uganda just threw an opportunity to her.

“In 2015, I got an opportunity to do a fool’s day prank, so NTV in Uganda called me and said, listen, how cool would it be because people know you as a TV host for entertainment or lifestyle but how cool would it be if they saw you reading news?” she recalls.

Luckily, the prank came out so perfectly and before she knew it, NTV presented her with a contract and asked her to sign it. Tumusiime added that being that she’s open to challenges, she accepted the offer.

“In the beginning, because it wasn’t a path I had chosen for myself, it wasn’t a part I had written for myself, like, it was something somebody saw in me, I was just trying it out and in my mind I thought I would do it for like a year and later do something else,” she said.

And every year, Tumusiime thought that maybe she might pick interest in news anchoring but no, things in news were not as fun as they were in entertainment.

“If you come from entertainment or lifestyle and then cross over to news, things are much much slower, ideas are manifested, things go through so many pipelines and it’s like a straight line, I started to see that there wasn’t no place for me in the news,” she said.

Tumusiime further disclosed that for a long time, she had been planning her exit from NTV Uganda till recently when she found the courage to quit, but promised not to close doors on anchoring because it was an interesting phase of her career.
