Kabaka Mutebi with Katikkiro Mayiga

Buganda Kingdom Prime Minister (Katikkiro) Charles Peter Mayiga has explained why they are still reluctant to fly Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II abroad for further treatment.

Speculations about Kabaka’s worrying health state gained momentum last month during his 66th birthday celebrations when he appeared before his Buganda subjects looking sick and frail.

And since then, people have been putting Katikkiro under pressure to take Kabaka abroad for treatment before his condition worsens.

During his meeting with clan elders on Thursday, Mayiga said Kabaka’s health is currently being monitored by experienced health professionals locally and when need be, he will taken abroad for further management.

“Professional doctors are monitoring his health all the time and he has experts around him everyday. When doctors say that it’s necessary to take Kabaka abroad we will take him,” the Katikkiro said.

“When doctors know what someone is suffering from and they have the medicine, there is no reason for going abroad, going abroad for treatment is not a style. But what we can do is pray to God to bless the doctors who are treating the Kabaka that they heal him,” he said.

A few weeks ago, Mayiga disclosed that Kabaka was suffering from allergies.

“During his 66th birthday celebrations on Tuesday, many people noticed that Ssabasajja looked unwell. But as you know, in life we face a lot of challenges and now Kabaka is facing a life challenge of allergy. It can be caused by the foods we consume, dust among other things. Due to allergy, the Kabaka finds it difficult to breath especially when putting on a face mask or shield,” Katikkiro Mayiga told the media.

“What is being said that Ssabasajja was poisoned is not true and all those social media rumors are baseless. They should be disregarded because if followed they are likely to cause anxiety,” he added.
