In a recent interview, renowned singer and producer Akon opened up about his close friendship with the late King of Pop, Michael Jackson, addressing long-standing controversies surrounding the iconic star. Akon, who shared a deep bond with Jackson, expressed his frustration over the persistent negative narratives attached to the singer’s legacy.

“I want to make it clear that Michael Jackson was never into little kids, and he never changed his color, he just had Vitiligo,” Akon stated, referring to the skin condition that causes the loss of pigment. “All the negative stuff y’all saw about Michael Jackson was made up.”

Akon shared personal insights into Jackson’s life, emphasizing that the pop star was often misunderstood. “Michael Jackson was a very good friend of mine, and we used to have regular casual conversations just like friends will do,” Akon said, adding, “He was human just like us too. He liked everything we liked. He wasn’t into thick women; he liked women who were supermodels.”

Reflecting on the allegations that plagued Jackson throughout his career, Akon revealed that Jackson was constantly under surveillance in an attempt to find incriminating evidence. “They monitored him all the time so they could get something to use against him,” he explained. “When they discovered that he was clean and they had nothing on him, they brought up that story because they used to see him with kids.”

Akon was particularly vocal about the public’s misunderstanding of Jackson’s appearance, attributing his changing skin color to Vitiligo, a condition that causes the skin to lose its melanin. “Vitiligo can happen to me, it can happen to you,” Akon said, underscoring that Jackson never intentionally changed his appearance. “They figured that Africans didn’t know much about Vitiligo at the time and brought up the story that he hated who he was just so blacks could hate him.”

The “Lonely” hitmaker urged fans and the public to take responsibility for protecting Jackson’s legacy. “I am saying this because Michael Jackson’s legacy has to be protected. Each and every one of us has to take it as a responsibility because we’re never gonna get another Michael Jackson again.”

With Akon’s heartfelt words, he hopes to dispel the myths surrounding Michael Jackson, focusing instead on the positive impact he left on the world.
