The MTN staff who were remanded to Luzira prison for stealing mobile money from members of Parliament and Ministers in sim card swapping fraud, will appeat in Court on Thursday 15th March 2018.
Nasser Kigenyi and Henry Magembe will appear at Buganda Road Court One at 9am to plead innocence in a massive electronic fraud case.
Kigenyi and Magembe are answering to charges of abetting Electronic fraud when they unlawfully swapped sim cards for 10 Ministers and Members of Parliament in February. In the process they extorted millions of money from the unsuspecting friends and relatives of the politicians.
Some of the MPs who fell victim of the duo including Mpaka Mwine Rwamirama (Western Youth), Gordon Bafaki (Kazo), Isma Mafabi (Eastern Youth), Angelina Osegge (Soroti Woman) and Ministers Persis Namuganza (state for lands) and Christopher Kibanzanga (State for Agriculture). There could be more victims who have not come out to complain.
MTN Managing Director Wim Vanhalleputte told the media recently that MTN was to compensate the MPs since it was MTN’s obligation to protect its customer. However sources say Mtn has not followed through its promise. There is a lot of complaints from MTN customers over the speed at which their airtime or data goes, let alone small deductions from their mobile money accounts which prove a larger scheme inside telecom companies to defraud unsuspecting customers.
The suspects have admitted working on orders of their bosses who are still at large.
