Uganda’s biggest coffee market, Sudan has commended Uganda’s compliance in improving the quality of coffee as per set standards by the Khartoum government.

Addressing a breakfast meeting attended by coffee stakeholders in the country at Serena Hotel Kampala on Tuesday, the head of the Sudan Delegation Eng Zakaria M Suleiman Salih said Uganda has complied with his government’s set quality standards and this is going to greatly improve the bilateral ties between the two countries.

The Sudanese Delegation came to assess the processes such as growing, drying, processing, and storing and packaging of coffee before it arrives in Sudan.

Eng Zakaria who is the Deputy Director of the Sudanese Standards and Metrology Organization (SSMO) also noted that there going to work hand in hand with Uganda National Bureau of Standards (UNBS) to improve standards and tighten trade ties between the two countries.

“We hope to strengthen trade ties between the two nations through sister bodies; SSMO and UNBS,” he said.

State Minister for Agriculture Christopher Kibanzanga revealed that the coffee standards have been carefully followed thus assuring the delegation that he will ensure that all the requirements are met.

“I will do anything to see all the set requirements by the Sudan government are met,” said the minister.

He further noted that the ministry is working on a new coffee bean with improved quality which will boost the coffee value both on local and international market.
