Minister of public service Hon. Wilson Muruli Mukasa has launched the report study on salary disparities in the public sector which will help reduce inequality and discrimination in work places.
Muruli said while talking to the equal opportunities commission (EOC) in Kampala today that the report will help reduce inequalities and discrimination in places of work especially in the public service.
“The report will help address imbalances and promote equal opportunity for all in public service,” Muruli said.
He added that salary differences have an effect on the operation of workers and the quality of work deliver making the report critical.
“I believe equality, inclusion and team work can be improved with application of these findings,” Muruli added.
However, the EOC chairperson Ms Sylvia Muwebwa Ntambi said that the wide differences in salaries causes inefficiencies at places of work in public services that’s why an equal opportunities commission was set to order any institutions, person or body to promote equality due to the differences in salaries depending on gender, different bodies and many other reasons.
“The highest paid public servant is the governor of bank of Uganda getting up to UG shs 53 million and the lowest public server gets up to UG shs 200,000 per month,” Ntambi said.
